CRUISE NEWS...ROCK BOAT XV!!

SPECIAL NEWS!!…Ahoy Leaves, Carbon Leaf will set sail on The Rock Boat XV (15teen) January 24-28, 2015 to Cozumel!

This year, TRB is transforming the Norwegian Pearl into a musical tribal fiesta, and we want you to join our tribe and experience first hand with us the experience that is TRB.

If you haven’t been on the boat yet, it’s a GREAT time…we’ll be playing at least 3 distinct sets throughout the week, roving the decks with potent fruity drinks in hand, usually involving ourselves in some fun onboard activities and competitions, jams with other artists etc.  There are some fun theme nights, and of course there’s music everywhere you turn.  It’s a unique, vibey time.  You may even learn how to tie a sheepshank.

So come.

Amazing artists, shows and collaborations with other artists you know and lurv, and ones you’ll be glad to discover.

Got your cabin yet?

It’s a 4-day cruise with Carbon Leaf and, about, oh, 100 other artists.  NBD.  The voyage begins in Miami and journeys to Cozumel, so you'll rock out to an endless lineup of musicians all the way there and back. Sister Hazel, the TRB hosts, serve it up right!

What’s it take, Leaves!!??

Barenaked Ladies (the band) and Michael Franti & Spearhead are also be part of the journey this year, along with Will Hoge, Red Wanting Blue, Gaelic Storm, Kris Allen, Alternate Routes and a BOATLOAD more of artists we’ve played with an many we have yet to meet.

We invite you to come along and TRIBE IT UP with us on The Rock Boat XV!

You sea? That wasn’t so bad…Now do it.

-Barry, Terry, Carter, Jason, Jon

Update 5.15.14 - Camping Sold Out(?) and Wristbands

Hey Ragtimers - a few important messages coming from The Park Rangers at Pocahontas...

1. There are plenty of Festival tickets left for the shows Friday and Saturday, but camping plots are SOLD OUT as of yesterday for both nights......BUT...... they are working to see if they can add any additional plots - perhaps primitive camping or otherwise etc - we don't know at this point, so stay tuned.  It's a State Park, so they've got channels to go through.

2. The Park Rangers have thrown their hats into the wind and are allowing Ragtimers to come and go, to-and-fro from the Ragtime Festival site and the State Park grounds as they please.  If you leave the Fest site, you will be given a wristband for that day's show so you can RE-ENTER!  This allows campers to go to their sites, or fest goers to take in a little nature.  However, Alcohol cannot leave the Fest grounds, and no tailgating is allowed.

Update 5.13.14 - Feedback on some Ragtime Carnival updates

An update re. the updates!  Thanks for all the valuable feedback we've been getting!  Keep it coming.  We hear the comments as do the promoters - everyone is working hard daily to ensure that Ragtime Carnvial is a great experience for everyone.  Please keep in mind that this is somewhat virgin territory for the State Park side, in allowing the unprecedented access in tying a multi-day festival into park camping and it's amenities...and exclusively so.

There are a lot of challenges for everyone involved...it is a State Park, after all! ...and we have to commend them, as there is alway a lot of inherent risk, and therefore policy to consider.  So please know it's not about concessions or maximizing profits at RTC.   Thanks for your understanding and patience as the rulebook gets conceived.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained!  Hope to bring you more updates soon!

Update 5.8.14 - Food, Drinks, Chairs, Re-entry Policy

Can we bring in our own food & drinks/coolers?

Park insurance doesn't allow for pets, food, coolers to be brought into the festival site. Food and Beverage vendors will be on hand, however.
Can we bring in chairs?
Yes, chairs and blankets are welcome
Will we be able to leave & re-enter?
Friday - There is no re-admittance once you're in the Festival grounds for Friday's lineup.
Saturday - Ragtimers may leave and come back once before 5pm.  Anybody leaving after 5pm will not be readmitted without a new ticket.

Update 3.28.14 - **CAMPING FAQ UPDATE!** Here are a few questions from some Ragtimers that have popped up re. the slight shift in Camping Policy coming from Pocahontas State Park.  This will benefit everyone that wants to camp, and only means that all campsites made available will have power, water hookups. We've re-gilded this information below under the official "Camping News" sections, but here it is, Top Shelf:

A BRIEF HISTORY:  There are more public camping areas available now because the park has decided to release camp sites that were going to be reserved for non-Ragtime Carnival patrons, making all camp-sites for Ragtime Carnival goers.

There are 56 campsites that we have reserved.  Each site area can hold up to 6 people, and each of the site areas has a fire pit for camping/gazing.  So the park can take up to 340-350 people each night.  (This would require some people who many not know each other to be in the same campsite, but the campground will work with you to maneuver people as best as possible to accomodate people who want to camp together.  This is similar to other festivals with structured camping, where you will be placed in the order you come in, so if you have a group you want to meet up with for camping, please keep this in mind!

To reiterate, The Primitive Camping area only existed because the Park was limiting the amount of public sites for Ragtime Carnival in order to make room for outside travelers to the park (ie. the Griswolds).  Sorry folks, the park is closed to Ragtimers Only...the moose oustide should've told ya...

Anyone who purchased camping is simply being shifted to the Public camping areas:

*If you reserved an RV spot, that spot is still reserved

*If you reserved a spot in the Public camping, that is still reserved

*If you reserved a spot in the Primitive area, those reservations are moving into the Public camping areas
We paid for a public campsite AND non-camping tickets, does this new info change anything for us?
No. If you have reserved a public campsite, and if you have tickets for the Festival, you should be good to go.
"Same question...I reserved a RV spot for my Airstream the day the event was announced...will it still be honored?”
Yes.  If you reserved an RV spot, it will be honored.
When we made our reservation for an electric/water camp site weeks ago, it was almost full. There was only 3-4 sites left for that weekend. How are they going to accommodate all the extra people?  How will people who picked a "primitive" site be accommodated in the regular sites w/o stepping on someone else's reservation?”
This is because the park only allotted a certain amount of Public camping spots for Ragtimers.  They have since closed the camping to the public and opened up previously-held campsites to accommodate more Ragtimers.  If you had already purchased a Public site, then you’re still good to go.
"so we can have grills now too?”
All Public campsites have designated fire pits for cooking for 6.  If you're party is less than 6, there may be other campers in that camping area.
Update 3.25.14 - **CAMPING UPDATE!**  Some great news for campers...Pocahantas State Park has altered the deal which will allow us to rent ALL the Public Park Camping Spaces for both nights, so there will only be Ragtime Carnival guests!  Take that outside world.  This means we will shift away from the "primitive" camping areas over to the Park campsites that have water hookups, electrical, parking and showers.  This is for tent camping (the "RVs Only" section is sold out).  Prices do not change, so if you have a 'primitive' site purchased, you will simply be redirected to the regular park camping area.  This means better accomodations and more camping sites for Ragtimers.  There is a path connecting to the amphitheater, and we will have a shuttle that runs back and forth.  GET YOUR TICKETS HERE!

Update 3.25.15 - **HOTEL LODGING INFO!**  We've gathered up some alternate lodging for Ragtimers who want to come in for the weekend but prefer not to camp.  Below are some hotels to check out and the distances from Pocahontas:

3620 Price Club Blvd, Midlothian, VA 23112
(804) 675-0000
Distance from Venue: 10.6 miles

5030 W Village Green Dr, Midlothian, VA 23112
(804) 744-7303
Distance from Venue 14.9 miles

 1.    Primitive Camping -

 2.   Public Camping - all camping sites are reserved for Ragtime Carnival.  There are 56 campsites that we have reserved.  Each site area can hold up to 6 people, and each of the site areas has a fire pit for camping/gazing.  So we can take up to 340-350 people each night.
