» ROAD NOTES: Jewish Mother, Va Beach, VA

Friday the 13th! The horror!!! Actually, just another day in the life of the Leaf.....Off to Virginia Beach we went. Barry and Jordan drove separate, so it was me, Carter and Terry in the van, along with my beautiful girlfriend Jamie - she was coming to sell merch since our usual merch-hooch, Candace, could not make it (she was doing laundry). We arrived without incident and got to work. As usual, we were running late, so we (namely I) had to work fast. No worries though - we were set up and ready to roll by 10:30. We wolfed down dinner (get the reuben!) and went to change. I was so excited - I had bought a new gig shirt that day at Target and I just couldn't wait to try it out. It was all I had hoped for. So we hopped on stage and began to play. and we played. and we played. and we played a little more. and then, all of a sudden, out of the mist came.........BARRY!!! Yes, Barry decided he would join us for the first set. He had been in the back alley warding off enemies of the band (i.e. tuning his bagpipes). I guess he just lost track of time. Or his watch. Anyway, the show was killer. The crowd there is always fun. We know things are going well when they start buying us shots. Since I was driving home, I chased my shots with coke instead of beer. We played two action-packed sets and ended some time around 1:30 am. Tired and sweaty, we broke down and headed home. We stopped at ol'faithful - that's 7-11 for you novices. I loaded up on my caffeine fix - Mt. Dew, peanut M&M's and cheesy poofs. Of course Carter ate all my cheesy poofs on the way. We dubbed him the Cheeto Dick. Don't ask. My wonderful girlfriend stayed awake to keep me company. We made only one pee stop and were home before 5. It was a good show and a good trip. It was bedtime.
