Wed. brings us to Buffalo. We drove in early from Rochester to see Niagara Falls. That's a lot of water. I saw a documentary where they dam a great bit and only release a portion of what it could be. This way, instead of it eroding away in 100 years it will only erode away in like, 500. My facts are fuzzy, because the documentary I saw was like a year ago. I'm probably completely wrong, but it sounds good and I sound real smart so I'll stick with it. If you're like me, you go to the Falls and think things like, "I wonder if I could go over the edge, without barrell, and survive. Providing you don't hit rocks and can get a good breath before you splash down. I don't see why not. If you're like me, you probably wonder how many people a year just decide to jump in and die at the peril of the falls. Why not? Many choose to do it from the Eiffel Tower each year. I'm sure the fact is there in the museum, but we only had time to go look, click some pix and then go to an OLD SCHOOL restaurant that serves mostly customers who have been regulars for like, 70 years. Everyone that works there is nice...and old. When we went to pay the check, some with cash and some with credit card, they looked at us like we were from MARS. It couldn't be done, they said, so we scrounged some more cash. The drawback? Her tip was forced to be just barely 15%, as we had no more dollars. NYC was for two days and some of us were a mess for that trip. Some of us went out and had our first experience with the GBS cocktail hour, which means finding a bar that's open til 4am and having New Foundlanders buy you drinks, which are whiskey doubles. For those who don't know what they are, they are glasses of whiskey x2. With an ice cube. Miserable. They drink them like they're downing some advil with a dixie cup of water before bed. We sip and wince. Sip some more wince. Act like we're sailin' lads and born on a boat somewhere cold. But it just doesn't work. And they know this. Of course at 4am, we go and buy some beer with Sean and Darryl from GBS and head to their hotel room. One of us heads to the bathroom after 4 wiskey doubles and relieves himself....of dinner. And some. An hour and a half later, one of us is dragged from the bathroom floor and wheelbarrowed by his face into Sean McCann's Great Big Closet. Here is where several CL members sleep. They were big closets. Boston was nuts. 2600 people. All crazy for The Sea, and we faired real well too, and can't wait to get back. To all the markets really. Went to sisters house in Georgetown MA and had some grilled kielbasa, eggs and such. Got an early wake up call from the niece and nephews. More traveling...the shows have been great. Consistently. GBS is getting huge stateside for sure. Last night ended the tour in Chicago to a great high note on several accounts. Chicago has the 2nd largest IRish population of any american city, behind boston. and it happened to be St. patirkcs day. ((OK, just a side note right now, PA roads SUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKK!!!!) Chicago DYES their river GREEN. Kid you not. So the show was off the hook for sure. It was also the 3 year anniversary for Carbon Leaf with Jordan on board. We went out for drinks later with GBS and it was sad to part ways for us. We've made some good friends and gotten sound advice from some true road dogs. We hope we can do it again soon. Best of luck to those guys and please support them. We owe them one.
